The wrestling season is in full swing, but it’s not WWE, and wrestlers can’t actually punch, so it’s probably more like full… grapple.  Early this month, the wrestling team traveled to Seneca for Districts. At this competition, Carl Junction won first as a school, having the most victories and most points.  This victory was not without sacrifice – on average, the athletes say they practiced over 50 hours for only this event.  This pushes them to their absolute limit, which will only become much more challenging as time continues.

Peculiar events took place at this event as well. Freshman Titus Hefner claims he may have put his name into the wrong weight range, yet still, he came close pointwise against many opponents, allowing himself strong competition. Hefner also competed against an opponent nick-named “Leg Pin,” notorious and constantly victorious, and this was not as close of a match.  Freshman Ethan Walker also had an interesting start to the new season. Walker wrestled against Carl Junction alumni Dalton Jones by chance at this event, who clearly remembered his Carl Junction training as he was able to claim victory.  The incident drawing the most attention to the wrestling team, however, is a first place victory in junior varsity wrestling at Seneca.  This victory escalated Carl Junction’s already soaring score even further, solidifying our victory overall.  This is but a start for the wrestling team, and we wish them the best of luck in their future matches.
