The fall sports have come to a close and the temperatures are dropping. This means it is time for the winter sports to start up. CJHS has five winter sports: girls swimming, girls basketball, boys basketball, wrestling, and archery.

Girls swim had their first practice on November 6. The team is in the water running drills and sets six days a week and some dryland practices. The first swim meet of the year will be on November 28. Coach Holt said, “ I think the season will go well. We have many experienced swimmers on the team, and those who are new to the sport are learning quickly.”

Girls basketball started on October 31. The team has been preparing for the season by running and working on fixing the mistakes they made last year. Dani Wrensch, sophomore, said, “I think this season will be a lot better than last year. We have been doing a lot of team bonding”. The first game is on November 21.

Boys basketball is expected to have a good year. They have been preparing and just started their season with the jamboree on November 17. Senior Will Bebee said, “I’ve been playing basketball my whole life and I think this season will go really well.” There are many returning starters and several players that took a year off are coming back this season.

Wrestling, in addition to the other sports, has started their practices and are gearing up for their season. The team is looking to have a great season. The first match is on November 28. Seniors Brooks Neria and Zeke Wall are both returning athletes. Neria has been wrestling for nine years and Wall has been wrestling for 13 years. Neria said, “I think this season is going to go pretty great!”

Archery is the last of the winter sports, while technically a club. They started off-season practice on November 6. The team has been working on mental management, conditioning, and aiming points. Their first tournament is on January 20. Coach Friel said, “I think this season will go very well. Our goal is to take first at State. I think this is an achievable goal because we took 2nd in Worlds in 3D shooting.”

Good luck to all the teams and make sure to go and support them this season!
