Carl Junction’s own Drake McMullen (senior) left on November 10 for an international gymnastics competition in Bulgaria. Drake will be participating in the double-mini trampoline event with 2,410 more athletes. The competition will take place from November 11 to December 11 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Though it will be amazing, the competition will be rough and require constant concentration and practice. Luckily, though, Drake started gymnastics in 2012, so he has five years of experience. He also has “prepared just by training like [he does] for any other competition; this is just on a bigger scale.”

Drake is happy and “very excited to go and compete.” He is very optimistic and “more prepared for this than any other competition.” He thinks that the competition will “really help get [his] name out there for future selection for competitions.” This is Drake’s first international competition, and he is sure the “competition should make for a more difficult and exciting time.”

He is also “not really sure what to expect on results” and is “hoping to at least make finals.” He has “trained a lot more” for this competition and is very “excited to be out of the country.” The competition will be hard, and the hours for practice and competing will be strenuous, but Drake can pull through and do his best to represent his country.

The entire school will be rooting for the 147 United States trampoline gymnasts, but especially for our own Drake McMullen. Here’s to wishing him his best performance ever!
