The Carl Junction Chamber of Commerce hosted the 20th Annual Bluegrass Festival on September 23. People from all over the four-states came to Carl Junction to attend the Bluegrass Festival. This year, however, brought something new; this was the first year the Chamber of Commerce put on a Friday Family Fun Night. It took place the night before on September 22.

At the Friday Family Fun Night, three groups performed throughout the night: the bands Pickler’s Post, Blue Irene, and a comedy group called No Apparent Reason. There were around 100 people at Stark Auditorium waiting to experience the first Friday Family Fun Night in Carl Junction history. At the Friday Family Fun Night, people got the first look of some handmade banjos made by Doug Crain. They also had the chance to be the first ones to be put in a raffle for a banjo. The bands’ performances were extraordinary and the audience got a good laugh with No Apparent Reason.

The Chamber of Commerce is happy that this year’s Festival and Family Night went well, and that it brought smiles on peoples faces.

The Bluegrass Festival was much more popular compared to the Friday Family Fun Night. “There was a wide variety of food, and the music was great!” junior Stormi Norton says. There were nine bands that played throughout the day, 56 booths to visit, and 11 food vendors selling food to eat at. Workman Bluegrass Band, Berry Wynn and Fly By Nite, Borderline, Fiddle & Banjo, Red Bridge Road, Kentucky 31, Spring Street, That Dalton Gang, and Lonesome Road all played at the Bluegrass Festival. One of the booths present was an art booth that had a very familiar artists’ name on it; Mrs. Sellers and her husband set up a booth selling and presenting art to people. Although she didn’t make an appearance, her husband helped and managed the customers. Many people from the senior center make it a tradition with their friends to come as well as many other families. “My mom and I have made it a tradition to go together everywhere. We love going every year and can’t wait for next year.” sophomore Sarah Spencer says.

The Bluegrass Festival has been successful for many years and Carl Junction’s citizens are eager for next year’s Festival. Carl Junction hopes for the best in the following years!
